Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy aims to restore normal movement and function in patients who are suffering from an injury, health condition or disability. We use proven techniques to reduce pain, improve movement, improve quality of life and maximize performance. Physiotherapy is a cost effective treatment compared to many other treatments available, and can even help to reduce medications, reduce the risk of re-injury and help you avoid surgery.

Physiotherapy Quality Treatment

On your first visit, we will start by asking questions about the history of your condition or injury. It is important for us to know what you want to get out physiotherapy, what goals you have and what is important for you in your life. We will also ask some general health questions which enables us to get an overall picture of your wellbeing and design a personalized treatment approach that will get you back on the road to recovery as quickly as possible. We will also perform a variety of objective tests to assess you condition or injury. This may include postural assessment, gait analysis, range of motion testing, strength testing and specific tests of your joints and soft tissue.

Following this assessment, your physiotherapist will explain their findings to you in layman’s terms (or in more detail if you would like) and explain what treatment approach will be best to meet your goals. You are welcome to ask questions at any stage of this assessment.

We believe in empowering you to understand your injury, so we will give you a clear explanation of your injury and how we believe we can help. We want to give you the tools that will enable you to help yourself recover quickly and stay injury free in the future. You are free to ask us questions at any time of your treatment. We strive to deliver evidence based treatment and we attend regular professional development to keep up to date with the latest physiotherapy research.

Treatment may include the following:
– Joint mobilisation/manipulation
– Soft tissue mobilisation
– Massage
– Acupuncture
– Education and Advice
– Postural Correction
– Muscle balance
– Exercise prescription
– Dry needling
– Taping/strapping

Not only will we be helping you to recover from your presenting condition, we will also be looking at what underlying issues may lead to future injury so we can prevent them before they arise. If you have had a history of back pain for example, we may look at your lower limb and trunk muscle balance and identify what you need to work on to support your spine. We often attend gym sessions with our patients to prescribe specific exercises that will continue to aid recovery.

Return to function will mean different things to different people – whether it be to walk a flight of stairs unaided, garden for half a day, play on the beach with grand kids, be comfortable for a full work day, return to running 5km, or participate in an elite sports competition or triathlon – we can get you back doing the things you love.
